In 1963, Poul Kjærholm designed Fredericia Town Hall and created PK-600 – a large, 250 kg black marble bowl. This bowl, half sculpture and half functional object, was received with great enthusiasm by the public. In response, Kjærholm designed its little brother, the PK-Bowl, so that everyone could enjoy this fantastic design object in their own home. The PK-Bowl is made of granite and has strong contrasts between the square and round shapes, which, as well as the smooth inside and the rough outside, symbolize the contrast between the masculine and the feminine.
Produced in a limited edition of only 300 pieces per year, each bowl is numbered. It can be used as a bowl or simply for decoration, and is a testament to Kjærholm's philosophy of fusing form and function into a timeless work of art that can also be enjoyed by future generations.
