Finn Juhl designed the Television Table in 1961 as part of a bedroom interior dedicated to his partner, Hanne Wilhelm Hansen. The bedroom was one of the most personal and unconventional projects of Finn Juhl's career and marked a new direction in his design career. The Television Table is crafted from cherry wood with a burnished steel frame and casters in untreated brass.
Finn Juhl's bedroom interior from 1961 was both an expression of love and a bold departure from the design ideals of its time. When it was launched, it marked a turning point in Finn Juhl's career. The furniture series was his final contribution to the Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibition, which closed just five years later – bringing an end to a remarkable era in which Finn Juhl had been one of its most influential figures.
With its striking use of colour and new combinations of materials, the bedroom interior marked a new aesthetic direction for Finn Juhl, who moved away from the expression that had defined his breakthrough in the 1940s. He created an extravagant and graphic universe in which the furniture formed a unified whole, reflecting both his desire to explore new creative possibilities and his relationship with Hanne Wilhelm Hansen.

DESIGNED BY
Finn Juhl
Rather than thinking in terms of practical construction, Finn Juhl had the mind-set of a sculptor, when he shaped a piece of furniture. In the 1940s and 1950s, this way of working had never been seen before. His ambition was to design furniture with movement and life. Finn Juhl took pride in making both the structurally supportive elements of the furniture and the seated person look as though they are floating.
