Tateyama turns people towards one another. A gap is carved out of the backrest so the sofa opens to the rest of the room rather than presenting a back to it, and the side tables are drawn into the form by a belt running the length of the piece — structure and surface reading as one gesture. Seat and backs are an intricate plywood structure: elasticated webbing under varying layers of non-deformable foam on the seat, hand-carved foam on the backs, lined and upholstered in Secolo's fabrics and leathers or a customer's own material. The belt and side tables can be specified in solid wood or metal, across the wood stains, the metal finishes or any RAL colour, with the continuous MDF base painted to match the belt. Felt glides.
