Collected within these pages are some of the most dedicated, passionate and talented makers working in the world of furniture today. Edition 2 brings even more new and exciting additions.

Before furniture was mass-produced, the hand of the maker was always visible. At Tollgard we have always been fascinated by stories —by the artists and craftspeople behind the pieces and brands. Our search to bring them together has been going on for more than fifteen years. The red thread —the creative DNA —that binds these makers from more than a dozen countries is the value they place on how things are made, the questions of living that they answer, and the honesty of their ingredients. The result: pieces that engage and endure. Stories that intrigue.

The celebration of the handmade across all corners of the globe has utterly captivated us. Beautifully functional design and the hand-working of metal, leather and wood have created its own language reminiscent of the principles of mid-century modern: less is more, honesty in manufacturing techniques and truth to materials. From Ceccotti Collezioni, Overgaard & Dyrman and Van Rossum on our European shores; to the East Coast heroes found at BassamFellows, Token, Skram, Juniper and RBW; to the South African artisans at Indigenus and Okha – we see a richness and a rawness that makes it hard to look away.

Never has the outdoor room been so important.

The first steps of the path out of lockdown are straight into the garden: into al-fresco lunches, drinks by the fire-side, cozy dinners under some twinkling lights. At Tollgard we have ten garden heroes to help make your garden sing.

Meridiani’s Joi Open Air Dining Table & Tai Dining Chairs

Meridiani’s Open Air dining table collection has a beautiful iroko solid wood frame and concrete top: materials made for the outdoors. The outdoor dining tables come in a variety of shapes and sizes, with clean lines and a modern aesthetic. The wooden base and soft grey finish ensure these tables can blend organically into any outdoor living space.

The Tai Open Air Dining Chairs are the perfect pairing for the Joi Open Air Dining Table. The chairs are expertly crafted with polypropylene rope and supported by a painted aluminium frame. The minimalist colour scheme incorporates Chalk, Petrol, Elephant and Black: simple and sophisticated.

As a Studio, one of the larger gardens we’ve been let loose in is set in the centre of Amman, Jordan. The villa, conceived by Lebanese architect Raed Abimilla, is a striking contemporary monolith that uses local materials in unexpected formats. We created zones to dine, relax and entertain in the grounds, choosing pieces from our favourite suppliers to be true to the creative DNA of the interiors.

The softly woven backs of the Meridiani chairs are inviting yet robust. Meridiania are famous for the quality and breadth of their fabric choice, and their exterior offering lives up to this. A mix of benches and armchairs keep the arrangement laid back yet elegant. The long concrete table is sculptural enough to look beautiful even when not set for an alfresco lunch.

Heatsail by Piet Boon

Piet Boon’s outdoor heater, Heatsail, is a sophisticated addition to any outdoor space. This unique product combines a lamp with an integrated heating system, increasing the comfort of outdoor living and extending the outdoor season.”
— Philip Howe, Tollgard Chelsea Harbour

Gandia Blasco’s Flat High chaise lounge

The Flat High chaise lounge is a stunning designer piece that combines thermo-lacquered aluminium sections in white, sand, anthracite and bronze with a 100% recyclable polyethylene sheet top. Gandia Blasco’s range of muted colours and textures ensures timeless practicality.

For contemporary settings we often turn to manufacturer Gandia Blasco. They are famous for their clean lines and crisp detailing. We tend to use a metal finish to add a little warmth to the mix.

We selected Gandia Blasco’s Flat High chaise lounge for our Quinta do Lago Villa project, as the view was so spectacular, we wanted to keep the outdoor arrangement very clean.

We discovered early in the design journey that our clients had a love of art and sculpture, and an appreciation of furniture as crafted, designed pieces. We wanted to carry this vision into the outdoor space, which is why Gandia Blasco’s Flat High chaise lounge was the perfect choice for this contemporary project. View the project here.

SOMA by Indigenus

No outdoor space is complete without Indigenus’ SOMA planter. Made in South Africa with vernacular materials, their unique rounded sculptural style make these planters a special addition to any outdoor or indoor space – whether filled with plants or not!

Byarums Bruk’s Waterloo Sofa

It is not often that you can reconfigure your sofa to choose your view. Byarums Bruk’s Waterloo Sofa makes this possible. With two fronts, you “can choose to turn towards the path or the view”. – Jesper Ståhl & Karl Malmvall, Byarums Bruk

"Our curation of residential spaces encourages us to see exterior spaces as extensions of these liveable, comfortable spaces in which to relax, connect with family and find things to do together. The choice of furniture, lighting and accessories is key to creating a view from the interior that draws the eye and soul outside.”
Monique TollgårdHead of Interior Design
Patio outdoor rug by Limited Edition

Outdoor rugs are growing in popularity and Limited Edition’s “Patio” version, has quickly become one of the cornerstones of its collection. This durable rug, available in a variety of neutral hues, can be used in a range of settings, as it comes with or without accent lines.

The Open Kitchen Range by Röshults

With outdoor kitchens quickly becoming the new “must have” summer accessory, Roshults offers maximum flexibility with its modular full service outdoor kitchen.

Ercole fire pit by AK47

AK47’s Ercole’s wood-burning decorative fire pit has a steel structural component and concrete element making this a distinctive focal point in any outdoor space.

The LARS sofa and coffee table by Piet Boon

Piet Boon’s LARS sofa combines comfort and practicality. Its robust and generously proportioned frame and lush cushions are paired with the clean lines of the LARS coffee table for effortless exterior elegance.

The Hoist outdoor lights by RBW

Hoist illuminates any outdoor living space perfectly. The shade is available in a variety of colours and diameters and can be wall-mounted. Extending Spring and Summer nights has never been easier.

Piet Boon in Tollgard Chelsea Harbour

We love the way the Piet Boon outdoor room in Tollgard Chelsea Harbour is coming together. The lounge area showcases the LARS series of sofa, coffee table and armchair. The dining table is the ANNE and is paired with the NIEKE dining chairs. Our Indigenus planters add some functional sculpture to this outdoor haven and are well-worth seeing in person. Come over to the green side!

As partners in life and work, Monique and I know that it’s important to celebrate the milestones. To stop and smell the roses along the way. Otherwise we’re in danger of rushing from project to project, from year to year, from decade to decade without appreciating the incredible journey along the way.

Valentine’s Day reminded us of the importance of celebrations, of the importance of milestones. So we started thinking about anniversaries, and how we could help celebrate them with some very, very beautiful things that could tell the story of a journey of design, love and a shared passion for beautiful things.

Share your stories with us

Celebrating the Years

Multicolour Floral Artpiece image in situ

A Zhuang Hong Yi Paper-scape

1st Anniversary: Paper

For the first anniversary, how about an incredible work of art, made from paper? This striking, colour-shifting piece from acclaimed Chinese artist Zhuang Hong Yi is made from folded origami rice paper. Every angle is different… much like a marriage!

Living room ambient shot wih beige l shape sofa and round pink artipiece above

Textile Art by Waller Hewett

2nd Anniversary: Cotton

The second anniversary gift is cotton. These stunning pieces from Ruth Waller and Lee Hewett are made from cotton bobbles mounted on sprung steel stalks. They’re also partners in life and work and their textile pieces exude happiness, joy and whimsy.

Daybed with solid wood seat paded with black leather

A Daybed of Leather

3rd Anniversary: Leather

Described in The New York Times as “solitary indulgence”, we think there might be room for two if you snuggle up very close on this stunning piece from New York atelier BassamFellows! The hand-sewn, achingly soft leather cushions are just right for the third anniversary.

Bed with grey sheets and bedside table with white wall

Bedlinen from Bemboka

4th Anniversary: Linen

Made using Belgian linen yarns, this incredible bedding set from Bemboka exudes the classically understated and sophisticated sense of taste you want from bedding, letting the true texture and threads of the fabric deliver that desire to wrap yourself up in-between the sheets.

Ceccotti Collezioni D.R.D.P. bench in solid american wallnut and leather in white background

The DRDP bench by Ceccotti

5th Anniversary: Wood

Elegantly beautiful, with curves that take you on a journey across its devilishly unique form. This two-seater bench designed by Roberto Lazzeroni at Ceccotti Collezioni evokes an authentic sense of character and old-fashioned charm.

Staffan and Monique Tollgard
“I love this picture of Monique and I taken at our best friend’s wedding in Mallorca. Monique and I celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary this year – which, very unromantically, is appliances! We might skip this and go straight to jade for 19 years.”

Copper desk accessories on a cabinet

Tin Vases from &Tradition

10th Anniversary: Tin

These tin vases from Danish makers &Tradition are a stunning little set of collectibles. Whether on their own or adorned with a few flower stems they always delight the eye due to the variation in the polished, burnished and oxidised metals.

Blue Glass flower jar with pink plant

A Vase from Moser

15th Anniversary: Crystal

A Moser crystal vase is forever. Especially one that’s called Diva. These stunning vases are handmade by elite artisans in a tradition going back 160 years. The intensity and mastery of their iconic hues of colour is a well-guarded secret – colours that you will fall in love with.

Glass ware and white ceremic collection on a cabinet

Base Tableware by Piet Boon

20th Anniversary: China

A truly beautiful piece of tableware is sometimes invisible, allowing the star of the show to take centre-stage. This collaboration in porcelain between Piet Boon and Serax oozes sublime, subtle elegance and the understated taste that’s the hallmark of this Dutch master.

Esteban Paris large candle with animal print glass in situ image

Baobab: Pearl Candles

30th Anniversary: Pearl

For many centuries, white pearls have been seen as symbols of purity and love. Sprinkled with light pink and white fragments, the White Pearls scented candle is inspired by the perfection of the pearl, also known as “tears of the gods.”

Sip of Gold Gold, black and white glass tumblers with geometric pattern

Sip of Gold: Furstenberg

50th Anniversary: Gold

These champagne goblets are always a talking point. Staffan’s personal favourites; the inside of each wafer-thin porcelain cup is lined with the finest precious metal in 24 carat gold. Celebrate a momentous anniversary with champagne from golden cups… and savour each sip.

“Isn’t the whole point of things—beautiful things—that they connect you to some larger beauty? Those first images that crack your heart wide open and you spend the rest of your life chasing, or trying to recapture, in one way or another?”

Discover what the Tollgard designers have been dreaming of this Christmas.

We asked around our Studio designers, Contracts team and Showroom gurus to see what’s on their wish list. Let us know if we can help with anything that’s on yours. We’re ready and willing!

All I Want For Christmas is…

Man of Parts Rua Ipanema armchair in situ image

Rua Ipanema by Man of Parts

“All I want for Christmas… is the amazing Rua Ipanema armchair. I can sit in this chair and swivel between the TV and looking at the Christmas tree. Its curves softens the otherwise big heft of this chair and makes it both very generous as well as beautiful. A true functional sculpture!”

Staffan Tollgård
Founder and Creative Director

De Castelli Yoroi sideboard in white background

Yori by de Castelli

“There are some pieces that you never stop coveting. For me, one of these is the Yoroi sideboard from de Castelli. Whether I think about the overlapping tiles of the Samurai’s war dress (that’s what the name means), or the glimmering gleam of fish scales, or the interplay of the different shades of metal that you can specify … or the gentle curves … or the hidden drawers – all of it makes me feel happy. It had me at Yoroi. This is the sideboard for me, not just for Christmas, but for life.”

Monique Tollgård
Head of Interior Design

Schönbuch Grace Bar trolley in situ image

Grace by Schönbuch

“This bar trolley is a perfect balance between form and function. A Sebastian Herkner design has the feel of a modern classic. I am drawn to it for its timeless design but love it because the top is back painted glass which makes it ultimately practical. Also it has sides which keep everything in its place. I would have this near my large green leather chair near the fire so that I could have an after-dinner drink over the holiday break.”

Erik Odell-Romanoff
Showroom Manager

Finn Juhl 48 Sofa Bench upholstered in white leather in white background

48 Sofa Bench by Finn Juhl

“All I want for Christmas is the 48 sofa bench! A beautifully original design and so unique with every inch considered; carved and sculpted with individual details. Steeped in history, from the House of Finn Juhl brand to the 48 Sofa Bench itself, it’s a notable conversation piece to have in any room. Wherever it’s going in my house, it will make the space special.”

Andrea Perugini
Interior Designer

Ceccottu Colezionni Icosofà upholstered in blue velvet in situ image

Icosofà by Ceccotti Collezioni

“If by some delightful miracle Santa Baby were to slip sofa under my tree – it would most certainly have to be the Ico Sofa from the Ceccotti Collezioni. It is modern and lusciously curvaceous but still exhibits elegant lines and restrained styling. It’s a classic piece that would work well in any number of settings and has all the elements of an enduring design. Comfortable and poised, a perfect place to reflect upon the dolce vita and imagine Sophia Loren gliding over to join you for a cocktail or two. I won’t tire of its beguiling shape – so Santa, when you read this, don’t forget I’ve been an awful good boy!”

Peter Phan
Ceccotti Showroom Manager

Token NYC Catenary Barstool in white background

Catenary Barstool by Token NYC

“Each Catenary stool is lovingly made by Token’s dedicated artisan teams, and it shows. For me, it reflects the best of Brooklyn furniture craft, I just love the way that it marries the materials so precisely. Hard woods, strong metals and thick leather hides have combined to create an original contemporary design that will last a lifetime.”

Max Pilbeam
Contracts Director

Overgaard and Dyrman Circle dining chairs in situ image with white plaster walls

Circle Dining Chair by Overgaard & Dyrman

“I like the geometry behind the design: the Circle Chair demonstrates the blend of mathematics and art that gives pleasure to the eye. The back of the armchair reminds me of a pair of compasses used to draw a circle. Overgaard & Dyrman is a new addition to our portfolio and will soon be part of our display as well, which is very exciting for all of us at Tollgard.”

Giorgi Liveson
Studio Manager & Head of Operations

Cinema Chandelier by RBW

“I love RBW lighting for their innovative designs: their chandeliers add an extraordinary touch to virtually any design scheme. This particular piece has been on my wish-list ever since I first saw it at our Pimlico Showroom. It’s extra-charming in person due to its grand scale! Santa would be the first to know about it if I had the ceiling height for it!”

Agape Casa Eros Side table in white carrara marble in white background

Eros by Agapecasa

“From Agapecasa with love, designed by Angelo Mangiarotti in 1970. A timeless, minimal and clever product that plays with form, materiality and balance to create a true design icon — a masterpiece — that suits every context. I can see Eros as the perfect addition to my living room, close to the sofa or next to the armchair — but if you want to be more adventurous – use it as your bedside table. You won’t be disappointed. I always looked at Agapecasa as a reference, a brand with a collection of timeless, smart and well-designed products – coming from the past but so contemporary nowadays.”
